MNC40104 Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining (OCE)

Description

The Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining (Open Cut Examiner) encompasses the role of employees undertaking the Open Cut Examiner function. They perform tasks involving a broad range of varied activities most of which are complex and non-routine. They are responsible for the quantity and quality of the output of others and contribute to the development of technical solutions to nonroutine problems.

Pre-requisite to sit for the Open Cut Examiner’s Certificate of Competency (statutory responsibility)

Unit Requirements

Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining – Open Cut Examiner requires the successful completion of 11 competency units.

  • There are eight (8) units mandatory of competency.
  • There are three (3) elective units


Units covered - Core

  • MNCG1002A - Implement and apply the risk management process
    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to implement and apply risk management processes within an established system for a mine site/area, including the application of local hazard identification, formal risk assessment and implementation of risk controls. It includes the monitoring of the system, reporting on implementation issues, communication of processes and systems, and the review and auditing of the risk management processes and systems
  • MNCG1007A - Implement and Monitor health and hygiene management system
    This unit covers the operational management functions required for the implementation and monitoring of health and hygiene systems.
  • MNCG1008A - Conduct safety and health investigations
    This unit covers the application of safety and health investigative processes at the operational level, including the identification and collection of evidence, the analysis of evidence to identify the reasons for and results of the occurrence or situations, and the identification and documentation of courses of action to resolve and/or prevent re-occurrence of the issues or problems.
  • MNCO1115A - Apply and monitor surface mine emergency preparedness and response procedures
    This unit covers the application and monitoring of the surface mine emergency preparedness and response plan. 
  • MNCO1040A - Conduct shotfiring operations
    This unit covers the safe use of explosives for the purpose of breaking overburden, coal or mineral
  • MNCO1042A - Examine and maintain mine safety
    This unit covers the tasks required to examine and maintain mine safety.
  • MNCO1043A - Monitor the interaction of heavy and light vehicles and mining equipment
    This unit covers the monitoring of the interaction of vehicles and mining equipment in open cut mines
  • MNCO1046A - Apply and monitor systems and methods of mining
    This unit covers the application, monitoring and reporting on the status and maintenance of a mine site mining system

  • BSBFLM412A - Promote team effectiveness
    In this unit, you’ll learn to develop team goals, plans and objectives that support the organisation’s direction in consultation with your team members. You’ll also learn to support your team so that they meet expected outcomes
  • BSBFLM405A -  Implement operational plan
    This unit is about business planning and the active work of managers to plan, implement, monitor and record performance to achieve business plans of the team/organisation. This pivotal role is carried out to create safe, efficient and effective services and products to customer satisfaction within your organisation productivity and profitability plans
  • MNCO1045A - Apply and monitor environmental management policies and procedures
    This unit covers the application and monitoring of environmental plans in a surface mine.



Timetable
